WESTPORT,
CONNECTICUT
Westport is an active, cosmopolitan waterfront
community of 25,000 located one hour from New York City. With
a rich history as a community of artists and actors, the town
has retained its eclectic flavor. The Westport Country Playhouse
and the Levitt Pavillion, featuring nightly summer outdoor
performances, and various art shows, music festivals, restaurants
and shops entertain locals and visitors from Manhattan and
various parts of Fairfield County.
Situated on the shores of the Long Island Sound and the Saugatuck
River, Westport has a resort feel with beautiful beaches and
its crown jewel, Longshore Country Club. All Westport residents
are members of Longshore, with its eighteen-hole golf course,
three swimming pools, tennis courts, sailing school and seasonal
ice-skating rink. The Parks and Recreation Department has
an extensive program including soccer, tennis, basketball,
and summer activities. Boating enthusiasts attracted to the
Long Island Sound use Westport’s marinas and private
yachting clubs as an attractive home base. Equestrians enjoy
Westport’s Fairfield County Hunt Club while bikers and
runners will find many races and events sponsored here.
The Westport school system is highly regarded. All of the
public schools have been renovated or newly built. Westport
now has five elementary schools, two middle schools and one
high school.
